Halloween has been celebrated in Sweden since a few decades ago and it is becoming very popular amoung young people and kids. Even though, this is not a very Swedish tradition, it is a great time to forget the dark and cold and gives some color to the city.

So, If you happen to be in Stockholm during the Halloween weekend, these are some spooky suggestions for you to celebrate it.

Scandinavia’s largest Halloween parade! It all begun some years ago when Bill Schacht (a New Yorker who missed the excitement of this spooky tradition) decided to do something to warm up the cold and dark days of the Swedish autumn.

“In a city which was already fun and crazy, that night stood out as the best. A million people of all walks of life come together to celebrate: bankers dressed like hippies, hippies dressed like bankers. I noticed this was missing once I moved to Stockholm, and I envisioned the joy a Halloween parade could bring to this beautiful city; but with a mix of good Scandinavian values.” – Bill Schacht (Shockholm)

The parade starts and ends in Kungsträdgården and it goes around the old town (Gamla Stan). Everyone is welcome to join and you can even participate in the contest for the best costume and win a prize.

I love halloween. It is my favourite time of year! All these events sound like so much fun, but for me I think if I had the chance I would go on the ghost walk tour and do the zombie run! So if halloween isn’t to big a deal in Sweden (not yet at least) does that mean kids don’t trick or treat, or have they recently started?

Yes, trick or treat is not as popular here as it is in America, but it has been increasing during the last couple of years. You can see more places were kids can get treats and have some fun, but still a long way to go.
